Opaly® Quartz Stone Processing Guide

A security attachment must be used:

Breathing dust mask / earplugs, safety glasses / steel rubber boots / waterproof aprons / gloves

All electrical applications must be ground fault circuit breakers

The following guidelines should be followed to ensure high quality products:

Visually inspect the panels prior to processing to ensure that the panels are color matched.

Do not re-polish, sand, or other method to change the original surface finish of the board.

 

Storage: Plates must be stored in a manner that prevents warpage. Need to be stored on a flat platform or stored vertically so that the product minimizes warpage. Sheets must always be stored in such a way that the polished surface is not exposed to the sun, and should not be exposed for too long in hot weather and cold winters in harsh weather conditions.

Cutting: To avoid overheating of the sheet, using watering tools is requested. The water flow should be consistent to ensure that the blade is sufficiently cooled. Do not cut the square corners (cross cut) as this will create stress points in the sheet and may cause the sheet to crack. When cutting the internal angle, always use the core drill to avoid damaging the corner area of ​​the cutting disc, creating a pressure point at the sharp inner corner.

 

Cuts: For square cuts in sinks and cooktops, always make cuts at the four corners. All cuts should be performed using a diamond cutting tool only in the case of watering to avoid excessive heat generation, which may also cause hairline cracks. It is recommended that the edge profile and the top and bottom of the slit have at least a 1/8" radius or chamfer.

 

Seams: The surface to be stitched must be unpolished, flat, dry and clean. All joints should be made uniform by adjusting the material before the adhesive solidifies.

◆Never place seams over the dishwasher or in the middle of opening.

◆There should be no seams on the peninsula or the overhang of the island.

◆A notch or grinding groove along the edge of the sheet portion or the laminated edge to be stitched can be used to reinforce the bond, always bonding the seam in a dry environment, they should fit snugly, span the seam from front to back and in the joint The length of the slit is kept horizontal.

◆Apply tape to the quartz surface in the seam area of the two parts, a professionally formulated adhesive and follow the recommendations for proper use of the adhesive are requested.

◆The adhesive is applied to both sides of the slit of the plate/component by hand and the adhesive is applied over the entire length and thickness of the seam area.

◆The clamping system should be held for at least 30 minutes until the adhesive is completely hardened over the entire length of the joint or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Beveled: The bevel should be angled at 45° to ensure maximum strength. The joints should be clean, flush and parallel. Please note that the bevel has the biggest weakness and is the most vulnerable. Our recommended minimum edge profile is 1/8" bevel or rounded corners. Ensure that the adhesive is fully distributed throughout the joint for maximum strength.

 

Lamination/bilateral: The laminate strip is cut from the same sheet as the countertop. When laminating, it is important to ensure that the laminate is the full length of the top member and cut at 45° at the outer corners. A notch or grinding groove along the edge and a table panel to be sewn can be used to enhance adhesion. The proper distribution of the adhesive is important for visual quality and seam strength.

 

Sink/cooktop installation: All under-mount sink cut-out must be polished to match the countertop surface. All sinks installed under the counter should be sealed to the countertop with 100% silicone. Be sure to use a professional sink holder or support rail system. When installing the sink and cooker, make sure they do not put pressure on the cut. It should be installed according to the recommendations of the fixture manufacturer. Do not attach mechanical fasteners (screws, nails, etc.) directly to the material. All cast iron sinks (top or bottom mount) must be supported below the cabinet. Under no circumstances should anchors be mounted to the quartz surface.

Edge profile: Different edge profile can be realized by using different router bits.
Joint line: Opaly® solid surface can be joint seamless with sink, basin and plash by using the same color of glue.
Sanding:  sanding can be done by sanding machine or portable sanding machine, start with dry sanding to wet sanding.
Use the sanding paper from rough to fine by 120#、180#、320#、400#、600#、1000#、1200#、1400# grit.

Polishing: After the surface is flat and smooth, buff the face with wool pad and wax, surface will be as bright as a mirror.
